June 2004 Vancouver Real
Estate Results
The
Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) reports that
sales of detached, attached and apartment properties remained
relatively unchanged with a less than one per cent decrease to
3,501 units sold in June 2004, compared to 3,525 sales in June
2003. Sales increased 30.2 per cent compared to June 2002's
2,689 units.
“2004 continues to be an outstanding year
with even more sales to date than our record setting pace in
2003. Our year-to-date sales this year are up nearly 17 per cent
in comparison to the same time last year. This market remains
one of the strongest in Board history, and we don’t see any
signs of a significant slowdown,” says REBGV President Andrew
Peck.

Sea-to-Sky Highway
Improvement Update
From CBC:
The
province is going ahead with the four-lane overland route to
upgrade the Sea-to-Sky Highway. The Vancouver to Whistler
highway is vital to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Transportation
Minister Kevin Falcon says the overland route will make some
precarious sections safer than other options would.
The government was
considering a two-kilometre, two-lane tunnel. However, Falcon
says studies found the overland route will result in fewer and
less severe crashes. The estimated cost is $130 million. That's
about $40 million less than an underground route.
Residents of West
Vancouver have been protesting the four-lane option. They say
the overland upgrade will damage an ecologically sensitive area.
